Confession time

I thought we could all make some confessions here, not just me.  As I was sewing in my underwear the other day I got to thinking about all the other sewing related behaviors I have that non-sewers would think were a bit odd, okay just plain insane.  I got to wondering how many other sewing minded people had odd or insane habits.  So I thought I would do a poll.  So I am going to have you all take an anonymous poll (if you want to) of some of those odd behaviors to see how insane we all are.  In about a week I will post the results.  For the record I am not guilty of all of these, just most of them 🙂

I am thinking I will leave these polls open for about a week.  Pass this along to those you know that sew so we can get a good random sampling of our insanity.  Also let me know in the comments if I missed any obvious ones and I will add them.

Have you ever hidden recent fabric purchases in the car until the husband has gone to bed and then you sneak them in to the stash and hope he doesn’t notice?

OH MY GOSH, Karen, this is the funniest post I’ve read anywhere all month! I am laughing so hard, and I don’t even sew that much. I can’t wait to see the results.

Apparently these behaviors AREN’T that uncommon! (And I will admit that the only reason I haven’t fed the kids cookies or contemplated the sale of my firstborn is because I don’t have kids. Do the cats count? They have a food container in the sewing room in case I’m too involved to leave and feed them properly.

Have ever gone to five fabric stores and looked in magazines and on web sites to find the perfect fabric, irregardless of the cost so you could get ‘The look’?
And I remember going to the fabric store 35 miles each way to town, with my mother in law when there was a blizzard on the way while living in Minnesota. We timed it so that we would have projects to sew when the blizzard hit and we would not go stir crazy when it got 20 below. We made it home with like 3 minutes to spare, barely ahead of the white out. Unfortunately hubby got snowed in at work for the night, but Grace and I had a wonderful time sewing…..woo hoo!

    Lol! Great quiz, and fun!
Re the first question… I’d like to know; who hasn’t ended up sewing in their underwear? For the sheer practicality of it, although I get how how weird it would seem to anyone other than another seamstress …!
“Mom”‘s comment above made me laugh!

Ha! Pretty much yes to everything that didn’t involve kids (because obviously I don’t have any). I haven’t actually hidden fabric in the store so I could go back to buy it on sale, but while I’m in the store I’ve definitely hidden it in odd places while I figure out how many cuts I can justify buying. Also, how long I would wait for the fabric would depend on how awesome it is… I have waited in line for 30 minutes before at our JoAnn’s on a sale day. It gets insane because it’s the only JoAnn’s within 30 minutes of the city.

Wow, I thought I was sewing insane, but it is clear that I am only newly infected. Now at least I know what I have to look forward to. No one alert my husband of what’s coming. He’s already convinced I have the sewing machine disease…I only have 3. And not one is a serger…every time I suggest I need a serger, my hubby looks at me like I’m an invalid. 🙂

  9. Bernice says:

Very funny. Sewing really is an addiction! Finished my coat today. YAY!
