I have joined the blogging world

I love looking at other people’s blogs, mostly about sewing, but also about decorating, cooking and other stuff.  So I decided I would start blogging about my own little projects.  Lets face it there really CAN’T be too many sewing blogs.  Plus I think my family is getting close to disowning me if I continue to post pics of stuff I have done on my family website and insist they praise me profusely, so now it is up to the sewing world to praise me profusely (aren’t I humble!).  So here is my first project Simplicity 2422.

I have been wanting a short sleeved jacket to go with a red pencil skirt I made from a red wool sleeveless dress I found at the good ol’ savation army.  I liked all the details with the tucks on the sleeve and pocket. So here it is

I am really happy with it all though that fabric was a PAIN to work with.  It is a thick loose weave acrylic from Joann’s.  I love houndstooth so I had to buy it, and no I don’t just love it because of Mondo, all though I do love him and think he should have won, I have loved houndstooth for a long time.  My drapes in my old house are houndstooth and I have a pair of houndstooth flats that I love.  Anyway this fabric frayed like crazy I cut it out and serged around every cut out piece before I did anything else.  Something else special I did was…….Bound Buttonholes! Are you proud of me, I am proud of me.

Thanks to gertie I felt like I could attempt this part of sewing that has always intimidated me, plus I thought if I did the botton holes with my machine they might ravel away.  Here is the back view

The nice thing about this jacket is that the back was cut so you didn’t need a back side piece so it made cutting out and matching all the houndstooth much easier.

You can’t see it well but my thumb is pointing to the pin that I had somehow forgot to take out of the sleeve before I sewed the sleeve to the lining. I really considered leaving it but I knew I wouldn’t want to bleed every time I wore it, fashion shouldn’t be that painful.

This is my sexy secretary pose, because that is what I feel like when I wear this (teehee).

Karen, you are RAD! This blog is going to be awesome, and I look forward to it entertaining me in the future. You might even inspire me to sew something someday.

Ooh, this is adorable. VERY Peggy Olson from Mad Men. Everyone loves Joan, but Peggy is my favorite. 🙂
